Teotitlán is famous for its hand-woven rugs made from organic yarns vividly colored with dyes made from natural materials such as tree moss, pomegranate skins, marigold, madrone bark, indigo, and the brilliant red cochineal insect. Woven from memory, the indigenous Zapotec designs are handed down from generation to generation.
